Hello, My Humax will not let me change stations just wont work,

Hello, My Humax will not let me change stations just wont work, I have changed batteries in remote and as it was installed first I can only use the television with it, I hope you can help. I cant even get it to turn off so I can start again. Thank you.

Is this a Humax freesat or freeview box?

Do you have the model number available?

Customer:

Humax freesat, sorry cant get to Model at back.

Pete :

That's ok.

Pete :

Can you change the channels using the buttons on the box itself?

Customer:

I cant find the buttons, I have tried, no cant even turn off.

Pete :

On most Humax freesat models there are control buttons on the front of the box.

Pete :

If you don't see any you may have a newer model.

Pete :

Is there a model number on your Humax remote control?

Customer:

RM-FO1

Pete :

Ok, that remote is for the FoxSat HDR box;

Pete :

so you should have a power button at the top left corner of the box?

Pete :

Does it not respond either?

Customer:

Doesn't respond at all.

Pete :

Ok, lets try a reboot.

Pete :

Power off the box by unplugging it, leave it a few minutes, then plug it in again.

Pete :

This will reboot the software on the box.

Pete :

Let me know if that helps.

Customer:

It is showing BOOT again do you think it is fixed, it looks better.

Pete :

Yes, a reboot will have fixed it if the software got confused.

Pete :

When was it last rebooted?

Pete :

A reboot every once in a while helps keep it running smoothly.

Thank you for your advice and it looks well again, I will remember what you told me about rebooting, and have to say I have never rebooted, I am new to 'fixing' so thank you very much.
