All the restore/repair options require my password....

michelleclive :

ok

michelleclive :

and your password ***** ***** getting accepted

michelleclive :

in this case the recovery options are limited

michelleclive :

please let me know the make and model of the laptop

michelleclive :

also let me know have you backed up your data recently

Customer:

Toshiba C6602EL

Customer:

I backed up most documents etc on hard drive yes, a few months ago.

michelleclive :

and do you have any recovery disc or windows 7 disc with you

Customer:

one minute, I'll have a look

michelleclive :

ok

Customer:

sorry. ust found CD for windows xp but thats not the same is it?

michelleclive :

no you mentioned initially you have windows 7

Customer:

yes it is windows 7

michelleclive :

there are 2 possible steps to get your computer working...1. repair...2. reinstall

michelleclive :

for both these steps we would need a windows 7 disc

Customer:

oh dear. not got one

michelleclive :

in that case only step left is to attempt a system recovery back to factory image

michelleclive :

that will roll back your computer to when you first got it

michelleclive :

but since you are able to login to other accounts, i would suggest to backup your data first

Customer:

What would that mean losing?

michelleclive :

then run this recovery

michelleclive :

your laptop would be back to what it was whenyou first got it

Customer:

But when I tried it on the other account it still wanted the main adminsitrator passwrd

michelleclive :

yes for any windows setting change it would need the admin password

Customer:

so how do I do it?

michelleclive :

do you know how to remove the battery of laptop

Customer:

yes

michelleclive :

ok

michelleclive :

turn off laptop...unplug adapter cord and remove battery...keep the ON button on laptop pressed for 10 secs

michelleclive :

then reinsert battery and plug in power cord and turn on laptop

michelleclive :

try logging in to your admin account

michelleclive :

if you get the same problem, login with another account and let me know

Customer:

ok

Customer:

doyou mean keep 'on' button pressed while i remove everything or after i have removed everything

michelleclive :

after you have removed

Customer:

ok

michelleclive :

let me know once back on

Customer:

Hi Did twice but same problem. cant get into my account

michelleclive :

ok..in that case the only option we are left with is to run a factory restore

michelleclive :

i will give you the steps

michelleclive :

please make a note of them on paper

michelleclive :

backup all your files..copy them to a flash drive or external drive or disc and then run the recovery steps

michelleclive :

here below i am listing the recovery steps: (please try them only once you have backed up your data as after recovery, your laptop goes back to the original state when you first got it...)

michelleclive :

  1. Make sure the computer is turned off ("Shut-down" from the Windows Start menu)

  2. Remove any peripherals such an external mouse, keyboard, monitor, USB flash drive etc.

  3. Make sure the AC Adapter is plugged in and working.

  4. Press and hold down the 0 (zero) key on the keyboard while powering on the computer. Release it when the recovery warning screen appears.

  5. If the recovery process offers a choice of Operating Systems, select the appropriate one for you.

  6. A warning screen appears, stating that when the recovery is executed all data will be deleted and rewritten.

  7. Click Yes to continue.

  8. When the Toshiba Recovery Wizard opens select "Recovery of Factory Software" or the appropriate option for your needs.

  9. Continue to follow the directions restarting as necessary.

michelleclive :

let me know if you have any questions

Customer:

Just thought-how do I back up my documents and pictures to hard drive if i cant get into them?
