I have a Sony VAIO SVL2 41B16M desktop, purchased April 2013, running win 8.1 (upgraded from Win 8 about 18 months ago) I also run a WinZip utilities suite that checks about 4 things including driver status. After renewing the sub on Thursday 12 Feb, it downloaded and installed 28 new drivers and I left it to get on with it overnight. On Friday morning the screen had a number of dialogue boxes , in each of which I dutifully ticked ”next” and was told to restart the computer, which I did.
The system closed down as usual and the VAIO sign appeared as it began to start up. The sign then disappeared and the screen turned dark grey. After a minute or two the screen turned blue with a message saying that windows has encountered a problem and needs to collect information before it restarts. After a few seconds the cycle was repeated .... and still is.
I do not have a recovery stick because (a) I was too lazy and (b) when I have tried to use the recovery discs laboriously made from my previous 4 VIAO notebooks they have never worked (eg because they cannot find a file they need or something).
I’ve tried all the ways I can find to try and get a dialogue box (mostly holding down different f keys during startup) but no joy.
The little book that comes with it says you can buy recovery sticks but where from? This is not he computer’s fault, nor mine, nor windows so I don’t blame anyone but myself, but I need help.

Please let me try to locate a download for the recovery disk online. If for some reason it's not available, you could call Sony to request them to send you a disc for recovery.
