First of all sorry for the late response. I just logged in and found your question on the questions list.
This kind of issue can be caused by glitch in the software or defective hardware on your Tab. Please let me know:
When did you purchase your Tab?
Did your Tab get wet or you dropped it by any chance?
Were you able to connect to the wifi before? And for how long (over 10 minutes)?

Hi Roger,
Thank you for your reply and sorry for delay. I was offline.
This problem sounds like a hardware issue, but sometimes the same issue can be caused by glitch in the software. If there is no hardware issue on the device, some of the solutions below should resolve this issue. Let's check every possibility to be sure it isn't something wrong with the software.
Please follow the steps below to reset your device:
1. Press and hold the power button for exactly 35 seconds.
2. After 35 seconds, release the power button.
3. Wait 2 minute, then turn on your Tab.
4. Test your Tab.
If that doesn't work, please try the procedure below:
1. Disconnect the power cable from the wireless router (turn the router off)
2. On your Tab - Press and hold Volume UP and Power button for exactly 35 seconds.
3. Allow up to 3 minutes for the Tab to reboot.
4. When Tab reboot, turn on your router and wait 3 minutes.
5. After 3 minutes, try to connect your Tab to wifi and test it.
If none of the previous solutions works, the next troubleshooting step will be to perform factory/hard reset. That procedure will delete data from internal memory (memory card will not be affected - pictures, videos and music are stored on memory card by default).
1. From the Settings screen, touch General tab, then Backup and reset.
2. Touch Factory data reset.
3. Touch Reset device, then follow the prompts to perform the reset.
4. When done, you will have to set your Tab again (to enter Google account, date&time etc.).
5. Connect your Tab to wifi and test it.
Please try all solutions (step by step) and let me know if that works. I'll be waiting for your reply and happy to provide more information if needed.
