Thank you for your question, my name is Richard.
I can help you with this as the profile has corrupted.
First, can you turn off the computer
turn it on and keep tapping F8 until you get to a menu.
Choose Safe Mode.
This should get you into Windows in Safe Mode (you wont have internet but it is not needed for this).
Once in, click Start, and type in
System Restore
Press enter and follow the onscreen instructions to perform a Restore from the last Restore point.
Once completed, tell me if you can now start into Windows normally please.
Thank you

It didn't work
Expert:  Richard replied 2 years ago.
Can you provide a little more detail Ian, as if you do the steps I outlined, it will resolve it.
How far in the steps where you able to get?
Customer: replied 2 years ago.
Tapping F8 didn't do anything and I couldn't access Safe Mode
Customer: replied 2 years ago.
Tapping F8 had no effect. I couldn't access Safe Mode
Expert:  Richard replied 2 years ago.
If its a windows computer, it will work.
You need to start tapping F8 the moment you start the computer until the menu appears.
Try a few times as it will work, you just need to do it right and it cannot be done with a wireless keyboard.
Let me know the results please
Customer: replied 2 years ago.
I've managed to get on safe mode but not by tapping F8. When I click Start there is a system restore option on the menu. When I click on that I get on to a general help menu. I eventually got on to User profiles which listed my own, my wife's and local profile as well as default profile. I clicked on mine but there were no options.
Expert:  Richard replied 2 years ago.
I really do not know what steps you have done Ian as none of those results would come from my instructions.
Customer: replied 2 years ago.
Does it matter how I get on safe mode? Can I speak to you on the phone with the screen in front of me?
Expert:  Richard replied 2 years ago.
No it does not matter how you get to safe mode Ian, but the only way is via F8.
I can call but its an additional service with additional costs of course
I have made the offer.
Else in Safe Mode, you just click Start, and type in
System Restore
Press enter and follow the onscreen instructions to perform a Restore from the last Restore point.
Once completed, tell me if you can now start into Windows normally please.
Thank you
Customer: replied 2 years ago.
How much would the additional cost be?
Expert:  Richard replied 2 years ago.
You see it in the offer that pops up on your screen.

I can't get beyond the keyboard error message

Expert:  Richard replied 2 years ago.
ok, we need then to try with another keyboard, its the only option left else you are going to need a windows disk.
Can you let me know when you have tried with a different keyboard please.
Customer: replied 2 years ago.

shall i try disconnecting the keyboard and reconnecting it

Expert:  Richard replied 2 years ago.
Try a different USB port on the computer to see if it still gives the error.
Customer: replied 2 years ago.

That's not worked. Sorry. I'll have to give up for now. Thanks for your patience

Expert:  Richard replied 2 years ago.
No problem Ian, we can resume later, whenever you are ready
Customer: replied 2 years ago.

Thanks
