As the first step, can you remove the power from the recorder and wait 10 minutes
Then connect the power and make a new recording
Tell me if this works please.

the machine was off for more than six hours today and the only function now is replay of prerecorded items but no new recordings

It is the hard drive that has faulted, we have ruled out all other causes for this. The hard drive will need to be replaced.
I am really sorry about this and you are going to have to return the recorder to have it replaced. It will be covered by the warranty if this has not expired, and the replacement will be done at no cost to you.

You will need to contact the place of purchase and check this via the serial number. I can't see that here sorry Arthur
