Hi there,
Check that the needle is sharp and not damaged or bent.
Check for any build-up of lint that would cause the carriage mechanism to jam.
Check that the bobbin is fitted correctly.

Thanks very much but I think you are talking about a sewing machine whereas my question was about as knitting machine and I have found one of the bits on the underside of the carriage isn't springing back like it should, so maybe need someone who can take it to bits or a new carriage. thanks anyway - don't know what else you can do.

OK thanks but I think it would need to be sent away for repair and I'm not keen on doing that. I live in the far north of Scotland in Caithness - about 25 miles from John O' Groats. thanks. Pat.

If you or a friend is unable to resolve the problem, and you do not wish to send it away for repair then your next best option is an in-home service repair.
