Hi there,First, check that there are no paper jams or obstructions in the printer, which would prevent the paper from feeding in correctly.Clean the rollers on the printer several times to ensure they can pick up the paper.Ensure that the paper guides in the cassette are snug against the paper. If that doesn't work, then the printer will require servicing.

Hello Pete,
Well the problem appears to have corrected itself. I checked for a paper jam first – then I picked it up – shook it – turned it upside down – swore at it – kept trying it a few times – and eventually it started to work.
As for your advice, it may well have proved helpful if I knew how to clean these ‘rollers’. As for getting it serviced; even if I could find someone reliable it would cost more than a new printer.
Thanks for trying.
Regards,
Bill
