have a 3d sony tv and bluray player. had to disconnect wiring from dvd to tv and when I re attached it will no longer play bluray dvd. it will play ordinary dvd so is attached ok. only will not play bluray. all perfect up to now.

Sony 3d bluray DVD player bdp s490.
Says false on the dvd screen when you insert disc. on tv screen say cannot operate this disc.

Then go to Resetting, then to Reset to Factory Default
Let this complete and when it has, tell me please if the

Richard, No good. Still wont play blu ray. will play ordinary dvd's. have lost other channels now but will talk about that later. want to concentrate on getting blu ray back.

ok, it reset the Bluray so you just need to run in the channels again like you did when you first set it up.
Have you tried multiple bluray disks?

yes. have tried a number of different blu rays. none work.

It is the internal mainboard or blueray lens that has faulted.
A corrupted firmware can cause this. But we have ruled this out by trying to reinstall it.
I am really sorry about this and you are going to have to return the unit to have it replaced. It will be covered by the warranty if this has not expired, and the replacement will be done at no cost to you.

how long does warranty normally last for this type of player and do I return it to where I purchased it.

It depends on the reseller but generally 2 years, you just return it to the place you purchased it from as they will handle this for you.
They can also check if the warranty is still valid.
