Hi I have a Samsung smart tv that has terrible picture. Faces are blotchy in close up. But everything ok far away. Am watching Wimbledon right now and Serena looks dreadful!.Have messed with different picture settings and turned on,off tv at mains. Have checked and changed hdmi cables

Okay, then go to Menu-Support-Self Diagnosis. Then select RESET

Fine tune the pictures until they are clear and then select Save or Close

Press the MENU button, select ‘Support’, ‘Software Update’, and then ‘Update now’.

The message “Checking for updates>” is displayed.

If the TV finds a higher firmware version from the server, TV asks you to update new version. Press Yes

It starts downloading. When the firmware upgrade is completed, the TV turns off and then back on by itself.

This seems to be a hardware issue. Most probably the issue is with the gama IC located in the T-con board. Replacing the IC is an option; replacing the T-con board is easier and faster. It will cost you around £25 plus the services charged by the repair shop.
