Resolved Question:

I recently purchased an MP4 Apple iPod Touch 16GB, which my 11 year old grandson set up, using his mother's iTunes account.Since then I have managed, using the computer, to download from my daughter's iTunes account, many cds onto the iPod.However I would like to start purchasing music and obviously do not want my daughter to pay for it.How do I open an iTunes account in my own name, without losing all I have already downloaded? Many thanks for your help, Jane

Hi there
Expert:  Pete replied 11 months ago.

there isn't a way to easily do this, Jane.

You cannot simply transfer authorization for purchased music from one user to another.
However, you can always burn purchased tracks out to an audio CD which now becomes like any other audio CD which you can then play on any device.

I may not have explained myself well enough. The cds I have downloaded onto my ipod via the computer came from my own collection of cds and not from iTunes. I merely used iTunes to transfer my cds. I have not actually purchased anything from iTunes. I hope this makes it possible for me to open my own iTunes account AND keep the downloads I already have. Many thanks Jane

Hi Jane,

Yes, you can open a new iTunes account and keep your downloads which have been transferred to CD.

To make sure I have completely understood - at the moment I have transferred 550 tracks from my own cd collection to my own iPod, using my daughter's iTunes account. I have not purchased anything. When I open my own iTunes account:
1. Does this collection of 550 tracks stay on my iPod, or
2. Should I download all the 550 tracks onto an audio cd first, in order to save them?
3. If so, does one audio cd hold all that lot? Many thanks Jane

Hi Jane,

When you open a new iTunes account, any tracks already on the iPod will stay on it, however you should always make a backup in case something goes wrong.

Many thanks, ***** ***** all your patience in answering my questions. Really, I should have kept my 11-year-old grandson with me until my iPod was all sorted out!
