For bluetooth device, press MENU- Sound- Additional Settings- Bluetooth Audio

not sure which one it is it says DIGITAL AUDIO OUT but there is a flap over the socket

Try inserting the jack in the Audio out port. Check it will not have a flap and a simple 3.5mm jack

no I have connected HDMI leads to my dvd player/recorder and to my SKY box and the only sockets left are the audio out one which you say not to use and one other one ringed in yellow

I said don't use Digital Audio Out. Use Audio Out to connect the headphones

I have connected my Bluetooth headphones to the Bluetooth facility on my TV works well Ken. Bowers

That's good. For wired headphones you need to locate the headphones port on the back of your TV. If it is not present then you cannot connect the headphones to any other socket. The headphone port will either have a symbol of headphones or it would have Audio out written beside it.
