I have an Epson DX 8450. I changed the black cartridge

I have an Epson DX 8450. I changed the black cartridge because the machine advised this. When I put in a new cartridge, the print on paper was rather banded. I did a nozzle check and the result showed that I needed to clean the print heads. The result was that the nozzle check became worse. After two more head cleanings, the nozzle pattern disappeared.
I have changed the black cartridge again and this has not had any effect.
What can I do now, please?

The problem was fixed on Friday by a local shop. For £30, they did a complete overhaul and the printer works well.
I just could not wait so long for the replies!!!!

The expert seemed to ask the correct questions but it took too long before the expert called. I had taken my printer to a local shop and had it repaired before I was put in touch with the expert. It is no use offering discounts when the original person failed to get anywhere near the problem. Refund please!
