You should have installed some software that came a long with the mouse and through that you can disable those buttons. Try the following.

Click Start, point to All Programs, click Microsoft Mouse, and then click Microsoft Mouse.

In the list under the button that you want to reassign, click a command or To disable a button, click Disabled.

If you cannot find the above settings please let me know the exact make and model of mouse as there is more than one model of microsoft comfort mouse and the procedure can vary.

No, i had no software with it.

Most mice do have this ability but you will need the software to do so. You can download the software for free here:
http://www.microsoft.com/hardware/en-us/d/intellimouse

Make sure you download the soptware that matches your mouse, if connects to the computer with USB download that one, USB is the flat connection while PS2 is a round usually green connection.

Just click the download and install and then from within the software you should see the options to disable those buttons as I explained above.
