I have just re-installed Windows Live and reconnected it to

Resolved Question:

I have just re-installed Windows Live and reconnected it to my BT Yahoo servers using the mailserver addresses and port numbers provided by BT. I can receive incoming mail in Windows Live but not send mail from there. What should I do to enable this?
Thanks

Hello, my name is Joel. I can help you with your problem. There must be a problem with your outgoing mail settings. What are they, and what happens when you attempt to send mail from your windows live app? Do you get an error message? If so, what does it say?

Many thanks, ***** ***** only just opened your response. My outgoing server settings, following BT instructions, are: server type SMTP. Address mail.btinternet.com 465. I have not ticked the SSL box because my understanding was that it should not be ticked for SMTP. I have also unticked 'use same settings as incoming server' and entered my username and password ***** The error message when I attempt to send mail is 'a timeout occurred when communicating with the server' which makes me think something about the server details I entered is wrong.

Yes. You need to tick SSL. In most cases outbo7nd will use SSL whenever inbound mail does and Port 465 is an SSL port. You cqn tick the same settings box too, but it may work either wqy. What are your inbound server setttings?

Incoming settings (again on BT advice) are: server type IMAP address mail.btinternet.com 993 SSL ticked (as per BT advice). Incoming mail seems to be working fine
