My son has been working for a company for about 3 years.

My son has been working for a company for about 3 years. They tried to sack him about a year ago but he was able to show that he was not at fault. He has now been given a promotion but the offer letter says that there will be a 3 month probationary period with one weeks notice either side. Should he sign the offer? Can they ignore his continuous service which gives him some protection?
