Customer Question

Dear Sir/Madam,
I notice that when i stare at the sky when i am outside i notice black floating particles in my vision which are not part of the sky. I also can see white moving fuzzy lines. These are not noticeable when i am starting at a computer screen. They seem to appear when i am looking long distance.
I have had my eyes tested and there is no abnormality found which is reassuring. I just wondered what these moving particles are in my vision? I do use the computer alot and i just wondered what i can do to prevent these? Can i do eye exercises to help improve these moving objects, what is the best course of action please?
Yours faithfully,
John Fellows

Hello,
Welcome to Just Answer
Such a phenomenon of seeing moving dots or figures is called entoptic phenomenon. It is a physiological condition occurring inside the eye and is benign. It does not require any further treatment. Tehre are no ye exercises which might help. It is always good to minimise the use of computers as it poses a risk for dry eyes. Use lubricating eye drops such as Refresh tears, 1 drop 4 times a day for good tear filmfunction
Here is an interesting article on this

Dear Dr. A.S. Desai,

So not even rolling the eyes around or any form of eye exercises will be any good for this condition? What about using eye drops for tired and dry eyes after long computer use, will this help the condition?

What do you think has caused this condition to start in the first place? Is this a condition you are born with or does long computer use and staring at screens worsen the condition?

Yours sincerely,

John Fellows

Dear *****,
Thank you for the reply.
Using Refresh tears eye drops will help with the long hours of computer use. Avoid gazing at the screen continuously, keep blinking every 20 seconds.
There is known cause or explanation for entoptic phenomenon and is seen or experienced by many or most individuals in some or the other form. The most common type is muscae volitantes in which ee can see numerous transparent spots all over especially while gazing at the bright blue sky. However it does not cause any problems nor does it require any treatment. I hope the explanation is upto your satisfaction. Have a good day and do remember to rate this answer.
