If we were separated and we had a loan on the property to pay

If we were separated and we had a loan on the property to pay for the deposit on the property when the spouse moved out and the wife were left in the property with. 2 year old daughter. The wife paid the mortgage herself - would the spouse who left be entitled to continue to pay half the loan for the property if the agreement wS he got the half of the loan paid back when the house was sold?
