Hello and thank you for your question. I will be very pleased to assist you. I'm a practicing lawyer in England with over 10 years experience.
Could you confirm that you live and pay rent (or own) for a property elsewhere please?
Are you in principle willing to be liable for any of her rent?
I dont wa't to pay her rent
Thanks. Before we get into the benefit aspect you refer to on that basis it would not be wise to add your name to the contract. This would make you jointly and severally liable for her rent. i.e. if she does not pay the landlord can come after you for anything up to the entire rent owing. In addition he could claim money from you for any damage caused to the property. It makes you jointly and individually liable for rent and anything she does to the property.
Accordingly on the basis you do not wish to expose yourself to this level of liability you may consider politely declining her request.
Is there anything above I can clarify for you any further?
thank you for clarifying this for me.
If I can assist any further as the situation develops please do no hesitate to let me know.
thank you Josh. All the best
