I am in receipt of housing benefits in that i receive housing

Customer Question

I am in receipt of housing benefits in that i receive housing benefits to pay the interest on a £48,000 mortgage.
I have just received £36,000 in settlement of a charge on my former marital home (Court order for that sum as my payment following my divorce).
I want to pay the £36,000 off my mortgage to reduce my reliance on the benefits agency.
How should I go about doing this and how should I inform the benefits agency?

Does your Mortgage Company allow Lump sum payments?

Hi, thank you for your response.

Honest answer is I don't know. The mortgage company is Santander Bank. I don't see any reason why they could reasonably refuse a lump sum payment, so, I would like to ask the question on the basis that Santander do accept lump sum payments.

Hi,

It's an interest only mortgage.

I've checked Santander's website and it seems lump sum repayments are acceptable.

Hi
When you receive the funds you can simply pay them to the Mortgage company (you should have the details).
Write to the DWP with a copy if the Court Order - and the paying in slip.
It is a perfectly reasonable and acceptable way to deal with the funds.
