my husband says he filed for divorce 5 weeks ago but I have not received any paperwork yet does it normally take this length of time?

Hello and thanks for your question.
The time it takes varies from court to court. Unfortunately, courts are notoriously slow in dealing with correspondence that arrives, and then they only ever post it out second class, so it could genuinely not be your husband's fault, if you are unlucky and this particular court is very slow.
You could ring the court office if you know which county court he has sent the petition to. If they say it's not logged on their system as having arrived, ask them what day they are dealing with, then you'll know how long the back-log is.
