Could you tell me how much child maintenance would be please?

Customer Question

Could you tell me how much child maintenance would be please? I have 2 children aged 7 and 13. My ex earns £250,000 a year. I gave up work to look after the kids. We have separated due to his affair. He has the kids every Wednesday and every other weekend.
Many thanks
Jo

Thank you question and
I will do my best to help you but I need some further information first.
Are you married and what is your housing situation?
How often does he have the children overnight

We're not married and we own the family home jointly which I live in with the children. He has now bought another house. He has the children every Weds overnight and every other Friday and Saturday overnight returning them Sunday afternoon.
Thanks
Jo

The calculation is based on the weekly payment rate.
His income is basically £4,800 a week
Accordingly he pays 16% on the first £800 - which equals £128 a week
and 12% on the balance of £4,000 - which equals £480, and a total weekly payment of £608 a week
This is reduced by two sevenths to reflect the fact that he has the children at least 104 nights a year
This makes the figure roughly £434 a week - £1880 a month.

Could you tell me if that would be different if we were married please? We were due to be married when I found out about the affair.

It would not have changed the Child Maintenance amount - but you could potentially have applied maintenance as well
