A friend of mine has died recently. No will has been found

Customer Question

A friend of mine has died recently. No will has been found in his house (by relatives to whom he did not wish to leave anything). He has told me several times that I would be leaving me some money and once rang me to say he had spoken to his solicitor; he told someone else that he has made a will. We do not know who his solicitor is - but assume it will be local to him. What happens? The relatives say 'it's in the hands of the solicitors', which I assume means theirs.

Hi
Thank you for your question.
My name is Clare
I will do my best to help you but I need some further information first.
Have you phoned local solicitors to enquire about a Will?

No - but was wondering if this is possible. Slightly awkward as I am based in Leicester and my friend lived in Stapenhill, Burton-on-Trent. Is there an 'easy' way of finding likely solicitors?

Is it acceptable for me to ring - or email?

Hi
Yes you can certainly phone round if you wish - however they will not be bale to tell you anything other than whether or not they do hold a Will
I would suggest that say that you believe you may be an executor.
You can get a list of local Law firms from yell.com - or from the Local law Society

I hope that this is of assistance - please ask if you need further details
