Recently became pregnant with a guy who won't accept any responsibility

Customer Question

Recently became pregnant with a guy who won't accept any responsibility he is the father. If I decide to keep the baby how do I get child matainence from him and get him to take a DNA test to prove he is?

Hi, thanks for your question.
In relation to child maintenance, once the baby is born you can make an application for child maintenance directly to the Child Maintenance Service - http://www.cmoptions.org/ or by phone on 0800(###) ###-####Once the application has been submtited they will contact the father to obtain information regarding his finances and they will calculate his liability for child maintenance based on his gross income.
In relation to paternity testing you can find information to apply for this here: https://www.gov.uk/dna-testing-parentage-disagreements, however you would obviously need the father to consent to undertake this testing.
Please let me know if you have any further questions regarding this.

Also, just to follow up on my response you need to submit the following application for declaration of parentage to your local family court: http://hmctsformfinder.justice.gov.uk/HMCTS/GetForm.do?court_forms_id=2631 Together with a £365 court fee.
However, if he is found not to be the father then he will not have to pay child maintenance.
