My ex partner currently has custody of our 9 year old daughter

Customer Question

My ex partner currently has custody of our 9 year old daughter since she left the family home 6 months ago to live with another man. We have no formal agreement in place regarding custody or access which she decides on arbritarily each week. I normally have my daughter to stay over one night per week. I would like greater access and am interested in shared custody rather than my ex deciding when and for how long I see my daughter. Is there any reason why I would not get shared custody?

Hi, thank you for your question. Just a bit more information required to fully assist you:- Are you all in England or Wales?- Are you named on the birth certificate as the father, or were you married at time of her birth?- Are there any child protection or domestic violence concerns between you? Have social services or the police ever been involved?
