Hi there ,good morning to you

Ok the first thing to check is the brake fluid level / level sensor inthe resivoir and the handbrake is operating correctly
If the brake fluid level is ok and the level sensir working ok then the fault will lie internal of the instrument cluster
The old shape focus had several issues regarding instrument cluster faults
The faults can range from all sorts of intermitent gauge faults eg dropping down or freezing to random warming lights appearing /staying on for random periods of time
The clusters were a very common fault in the mk1 focus
Ford dropped the price from £250 down to £65 as there was so many issues

Sometimes with issues like yours the best way to clarify the cluster is the issue the wiring should be checked with the fault present

If you need anymore help or advice on this issue please let me know
