Customer Question

MK3 Ford - CD radio player has no power. First happened when standard unit was taken out to read serial code. Since then have new CD unit fitted but it is not getting power either. Have checked fuses 69 and 71, both ok. Am stumped. Any ideas gratefully received.

Hi there ,good evening to you

Ok have you checked the audio unit itself as some of these Mondeo audio units had a fuse located where the multiug goes
If you remove the audio unit again and check to see if there is a fuse fitted in the back of the audio unit
(usally a 15amp) as these can blow if the Aieral is not connected before fitting the multiplug
As this grounds the audio unit Out

Check this first and we can continue our diagnosis

Hi there

Ok was this another ford unit that was fitted and was it just a standard audio unit no say nav or touchscreen

I assume The new radio /audio unit has never work but the old one worked ok

Just trying to get a feel for what has happened here

Regards Brian

It is a Sony unit which is functioning, was in another Mondeo and was fine in it.

What happened is that the standard Mondeo unit worked fine until it was taken out to find the serial number. We had to get the battery changed and when that happened we needed the code for the original unit. Then we decided to put in the other unit that we had from a previous car. Only to find it would not work for some reason.

Hi there ,thanks

Ok let's start from the top

Ok the first check using the diagram are fuses 69 and 72 in the CJB
Ensure vtsge at both of these are present
These 2 fuses feed pins 1 and 3 at the audio unit

Hi there ,thanks

Ok the wiring needs to be checked at the audio unit multiplug

Ok the feeds at the audio Unit are

Pin 1 (orange/black wire ) constant live
Pin 2 (blue/black wire ) accesory feed)

Earths at at pins 2&6
Black /yellow and black /green

These should ideally be checked with the multiplug connected
Also ensure the plug is fully home and that the pin grip is ok at the relavent pins

Is both units you have now not working
Also do you have the registration number to clarify this is the correct diagram
