Hi there ,thanks

I was just wanting to confirm that

Ok your first check and most likely fault lie with a dissconnected gear cable at the gearbox the bushes normally wear and come away from the ball end

If you look under the passengers front of the vehicle you will see a black plastic cover pop this cover off held by a few plastic tangs and inspect the gear cables to see if they are still attached
Its common on the older Mk1 focus for the cable to become detatched
If it has become detatched you can pop it back on to the ball end of the gear selector
as a temp fix you can secure it with cable ties etc

If you need anymore help or advice on this issue please let me know
If you are completley satisfied with my answer /advice
