Are there any type of warning lights coming on?
Customer: replied 3 years ago.

red warning light comes on if i dont put foot down when engine heat going up. temp. will return to normal for about a mile then up it goes again

Expert:  Mike Kelly replied 3 years ago.
Ok this issue is a thermostat problem, the vehicle thermostat is not opening and closing at the correct temperatures and in turn causing the problem that you are having with the vehicle. The thermostat will need to be tested and likely replaced.
Customer: replied 3 years ago.

why does this only happen when towing and after about 20 miles.i have just driven 60 miles without caravan no problem ?

Expert:  Mike Kelly replied 3 years ago.
Because when towing it puts more pressure on the engine which creates more heat and the thermostat can't keep up.
