I have an 06 Focus tdci diesel - has been driving perfectly

Customer Question

I have an 06 Focus tdci diesel - has been driving perfectly well and then all warning lights suddenly flashed up, car completely died without warning whilst I was driving. Battery and alternator have been checked both good. My mechanic thought he had solved the problem but then exactly the same thing happened within 2 minutes of me leaving the garage, battery completely dead - no start up, nothing at all. Just dies whilst driving!!!

Hi there good evening to you sorry for the delayed response
Ok the first thing that must be checked is the alternator as this is what keeps the battery charged
The alternator should be imputing a voltage of around 13.9-14.5 volts across the battery when running
Another thing to note is the alternators on these 1.8tdci variebts use a dummy shaft to drive the alternator
What can happen is the rubber bush detaches on this dummy shaft causing the alternator not to turn quickly enough to charge correctly
These tests must be our first port of call with this issue
