My Fiesta 1 litre ecoboost has a "dead spot" - a hesitation

Resolved Question:

My Fiesta 1 litre ecoboost has a "dead spot" - a hesitation at low revs when accelerating. Is this normal? Can it be cured?

Hi there ,good morning to you
Ok the first thing that should be done to resolve this drivability issue is to have the PCM updated to the latest level software
This is done using the ford ids software
This is covered under warranty
The PCM updates resolve all different types of drivability issues from hesitations to jerky driving

I presumed that as I had reported the fault Evans Halshaw would have done this. We did discuss it when I collected the car, but the 2 guys on the desk seemed to think it was a normal characteristic of the ecoboost engine. Should I go back to them?

Hi there sorry for the dekay there
Ok I would return the vehicke and confirm if there is a later pcm update avaiable as these updates are constantly released to solve various different issues
This would be the first thing I would have carried out in my dealership
If you have your registration number there I can check if any warranty session was started ie update carried out
If private I will need chassis number
Regards Brian

Reg. no is WF 63 NJY. The service was only yesterday so it might be too soon!

Hi there thanks
Ok there is no live or recorded warranty sessions ( which there would have been if a session on ETIS ids was done )
I suspect the vehicke was given a quick road test it quick look over and have back to you
I would advise returning the vehicke and running a symptom based diagnostic route using e-tis ids
This will check for Any known concerns etc relating to your symptom and can indicate if a pcm update is required
I have also had spark plug issues on these 1.0 engines where by the tip was worn heavily (possibly down to overfuelling /combustion too hot ) but this Usally causes more a missfire symptom

What is an "ETIS ids"?

I think you are saying that no checks appear to have been done, which is also what I suspected.

I will return there next Monday.

Thanks for your help.

Cheers, Paul
