Resolved Question:

Greetings, i have a 96 2.5td tranny pick up. Had a lot of oil leaking from between engine and gearbox so I have replaced crankshaft oilseal and new clutch while the gearbox was out. Have run it for 3 days now and seemed fine but now it seems to be leaking again. Any ideas on what could be causing the seal to fail , the engine has always been a bit noisy on bottom end (sounds like it has no oil but oil has been replaced to correct level) yet runs fine and has been faultess for 5 years. Any help would be grateful thankyou.

Hello

what can happen over time is the rear of the crank becomes worn due to dirt getting embedded in the seal and wearing a groove in the crank seal face

this can only be cured by grinding the crank to re-face that area

if you remove the seal carrier and feel with a sharp implement across the sealing face on the crank to feel for any ridges
