semi auto on YB04EYT, apparently there can be problems with this g/box in 50000 + miles , is it just moaners I am hearing or can I just treat as normal precautions, and what would you look listen for, Regards Tony

Expert:  Gallagher99 replied 2 years ago.
Hi Tony thanks
Ok the main issue these semi automatic gearboxes (ASM) suffer from is a sticking gear selector mechanisim which in turn doesn't allow you to start the car
I belive this is due to the postion of the mechanisim ie : low down so permissible to salt /water Debris
My father inlaw has one of these and hadn't had any issues now at 64 ,000
He does keep it garaged so weather that makes any difference is unknown
The gearbox itself isn't an auto box it is a standard manual 5 dpeed ib5 gearbox used in most ford petrol vehicles
The difference is the gear selection is automated (electric )
So the box itself doesn't give us issues but the selectors or in rarer cases corroded wiring at the selectors are the issues we tend to see more
If you need anymore help or advice on this issue tony please let me know
