ps should there be a signal on dash when trailer connected up

Hi there thanks
Ok if it was a proper ford kit then it should have been programmed to the central car configuration in the BCMii
The ford kit comes with a trailer module which communicates to the other modules once programmed
This then limits the rear parking sensors behaviour
In your case it sounds as if it has just had a basic 7 pin wiring kit fitted thus why when you select reverse it is maxing out as the rear sensors are picking the towbar up
Also there isn't any indication on the dash to say the trailer is connected
