Hello Anna. Thanks for responding. I was watching the Movie Croc ((2007)) in one scene a family is enjoying a day out on a boat, three of the kids enter the water and are swimming about when a lifeguard comes and tells the parents to get the youngsters out of the water because there has been crocodile attacks on humans in the area . Two of the younger ones get out of the water but the oldest one refuses to get out as he is enjoying playing in the water . Just at that the huge croc attacks coming up from below the boy and grabs him and swims away with him in his mouth .see pictures 1st picture is the guy before he enters the water ,others show the croc dragging his body away ,rescuers try and get the croc to release the guy ,but as the croc swims off it swallows the body hole . What will be happening to body now inside the croc, many thanks .

I had to do a little research on croc digestion for this one, plus it is a little different approach than we usually take. By variety is good.
The huge crocodile quickly swallows the boy whole. Peristalsis in the esophagus forces the body into the crocodile's stomach. As soon as the food enters the stomach, a special valve in the croc's heart closes, temporarily stopping blood circulation to the lungs. The now carbon dioxide-rich blood flows to the stomach. The carbon is used to secrete digestive acids at 10 times the normal rate. These are powerful stomach acids. They go to work on the meal. Bits of flesh are eaten away from all parts of the body: fat and muscle from fingers, toes, private areas will go first. As soon as bits break off, they are swept into the intestines where the nutrients are extracted from them. Meanwhile, in the stomach, the acids work on the bigger muscles and little pieces keep breaking off and moving on to be utilized.
After a few hours, all the muscle and fat is gone. The internal organs are now exposed to the digestive juices. Most of them are fairly soft and quickly disintegrate into the small pieces that can go into the intestines. Within a couple of hours, nothing is left but bone. The stomach acids begin to dissolve them. This takes longer because of the hardness of the bones. After a few days, everything is out of the stomach. All the while this has been going on, the intestines have been extracting nutrients and sending waste further down the digestive system. When the croc passes some droppings, there may be some tattered scraps of the boy's clothes, but nothing else will be left of him.

Hello Anna, Many thanks for your reply, absolutely fabulous response. From what I can make out the poor guy’s body will almost be completely digested within a day or two.

From what I can tell from the film this man eating crocodile was so obsessed with eating humans that once back at its den/pit it would lay there digesting a meals till all the flesh et was gone and then regurgitate the bones and go looking for its next meal .

A Crocodile hunter and a few people from a local crocodile/alligator park go out hunting for the croc hoping to kill it before anyone else is killed.

1) If they found the crocodile in its den/pit 2 to 4 hours after eating the boy, killed it and opened it up what would they find in its stomach.

2) If they did not catch the croc until after it had regurgitated the meal of the boy what would be in the pile of vomit.

3) If they did not get to the den/pit for about 2/3days and the crocodile has a spot in the cave that it goes to the loo .what would they find in the pile, would anything be still intact enough that they could say that it was the guys remains.

Many thanks for your brilliant help.

) If they found the crocodile in its den/pit 2 to 4 hours after eating the boy, killed it and opened it up what would they find in its stomach.

A body that had the extremities and genitals dissolved, skin also dissolved away, and an appearance of being partly decomposed.

2) If they did not catch the croc until after it had regurgitated the meal of the boy what would be in the pile of vomit.

We are looking at an extra large crocodile here since it was able to swallow the boy whole. Because of its size and the strength of its stomach acids, it would be more likely to digest the bones and everything else.If it did vomit, however, they would find the larger bones and the tattered clothes.

3) If they did not get to the den/pit for about 2/3days and the crocodile has a spot in the cave that it goes to the loo .what would they find in the pile, would anything be still intact enough that they could say that it was the guys remains.

To identify with certainty, DNA testing could be done. It's possible they might find some pieces of bone or teeth that could identify him. Pieces of clothing, while somewhat destroyed by the digestive juices might still be identifiable, too.

Thanks for the swift reply and the great answers ,Once more outstanding work.

Given this crocs nature and that it seamed to like feeding on humans ,do you think it would have enjoyed this meal more given that it was able to swallow it hole , and that there was not so much bulky clothing ..what would have been it`s preferd way of swallowing the guy head or feet first .face up or down.

would it be able to tell the different body parts from one another as it digested them , like muscle, the guys swimsuit clad genitals, the heart and lungs etc.

Crocodiles eat more to satisfy hunger than to enjoy the tastes. Because of the way they eat, they don't notice flavours very much. However, because the guy could be swallowed whole, it would have been an extremely satisfying meal, leaving the croc very full..

It would definitely be head first - that's how reptiles eat. If the croc grabbed the guy from behind, it would be face up. If it caught him from the front, face down.

No, the stomach doesn't have the type of tactile nerves that would be required to do this. Once food hits the stomach, it's all just food.
