HiI am fitting an extractor fan above an island in my kitchen.

Resolved Question:

Hi
I am fitting an extractor fan above an island in my kitchen. The ceiling is a plasterboard on standard joists (think they are 10 x 2), will this support the weight ok, the extractor weighs approx 50kg?

Hi my name is ***** ***** I have been in the home improvement and repair field for 20 years. I will be glad to help you today. The rule of thumb is that 130kg per square meter is within the weight limit of this size joist. The more the weight is distributed, the more that it is sustainable although you will be well within the limit.
