I have just bought a Panasonic SC-HTE80 audio system. Setting

Resolved Question:

I have just bought a Panasonic SC-HTE80 audio system. Setting it up, the instructions say to press INPUT to select the source (I've connected it to our LG television with an HDI cable). When I select TV as the source, the sound continues to come from our TV speakers. The Panasonic is flashing the word PAIRING. There's nothing about this in the installation manual! Any ideas, please?

If you do not have a Blueray or DVD player plug the TV into the BD/DVD HDMi port instead and then choose that input

If you do have one then the TV may be a non ARC TV so you have to use the Optical audio out port on the TV and connect that to the Optical audio in port on the Soundbar
Expert:  Mike the Mac Medic replied 1 year ago.
Check on the TV settings for HDMI make sure ARC is set to On or Auto
Customer: replied 1 year ago.

It's definitely an ARC TV; I was careful to connect the HDMI cable correctly here....Going through my TV settings, I can't find a link to HDMI or ARC through the settings button on my handset. Would this normally be through the Setup menu, or what, do you think?

Expert:  Mike the Mac Medic replied 1 year ago.
Yes in Setup on the TV there will be settings for HDMI
Expert:  Mike the Mac Medic replied 1 year ago.
For instance on my Sony it is Settings / Channels & input / HDMI Settings and it is called Control for HDMI I have it On
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Eventually I found this under the sound settings - so the TV speakers are disabled, as you'd expect - but no sound from the Panasonic either! I've turned its volume up high, but nothing. Any thoughts, please?

What model TV is it?
Customer: replied 1 year ago.

It's an LG (small flat-screen) Smart TV, 24MS53V.

Expert:  Mike the Mac Medic replied 1 year ago.
I don't see if that is ARC or not I think you have to use the Optical audio for that model
Expert:  Mike the Mac Medic replied 1 year ago.
Do you have a DVD or Bluuray player?
Customer: replied 1 year ago.

Yes, a DVD player.

Expert:  Mike the Mac Medic replied 1 year ago.
OK I think you have to use the optical cable for that TV because it is not sensing the thru audio for HDMI
Expert:  Mike the Mac Medic replied 1 year ago.
You still get the full digital audio that way
Customer: replied 1 year ago.

That's rather a pain as I'll have to buy another cable. The manual says the HDMI cable should be sufficient for an ARC TV, which ours is.

Expert:  Mike the Mac Medic replied 1 year ago.
I don't see that in the specs for that Tv sorry.
Customer: replied 1 year ago.

Oh well, I'll try my luck then. Thanks for your help.

Are there two HDMI inputs on the back because I am looking at a manual and only the number 2 HDMI port has ARC?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.

That's right; the number 1 HDMI port, which I'm not using, is labelled MHL.

OK on the TV are there settings for the HDMI digital signal to make it bitstream or PCM for audio?
Expert:  Mike the Mac Medic replied 1 year ago.
Also when you choose TV on the Panasonic you also may need to choose external audio on the TV the first time you do it... I know the Sony does that and after that it recognizes it on the fly.
