Hi.

John did you check to see that is was not coming from the oil filter ,

I have seen to many times bad filters get fitted where the seal has twisted in its seat
will seal for a while, then off one minute to the next will blow out and pump a load of oil out from the bad seal .

Check this first then get back to me .

But check with the dip stick and check how much oil is left in the engine ?if any .

Don't start the engine ,

Engine oil level ok and no oil around filter!
Could it be transmission fluid doesn't smell like engine oil?
Expert:  indy-tech replied 4 years ago.
Hi John .

When you was checking under the car did you see any oil coming from ,more to the left

Was the oil more like a red colour ..

Pull the transmission dip stick and check the level of the transmission .

Or do you have a manual transmission ?

If the engine oil is okay then the oil is coming from the transmission .

Got a feeling it might be diesel ?
Right side of engine is worst

Hi

John yes this would make more sense as the engine did die on you ,
Check the fuel filter its should be on that side on the firewall ,
Remove the two fuel hoses and the electrical connection on the bottom and remove as a unit to check where this is leaking .

Let me know what you find ,could be the hose itself or the seal on the filter

Think its coming from the fuel pump?

Expert:  indy-tech replied 4 years ago.
Hi John

Sorry did not get back sooner ,as we where experiancing internet issue ,

Was any work done on the engine in the past.

Switch on the ignition and check for leaks at the pump then try and start ,get a helper to crank the engine and you check at the pump and see where its coming from .
