Most common is a faulty abs wheel speed sensor.Have you had the vehicle scanned to get the code?

No not yet, we live on an Island so getting to a garage involves ferry trips so will try to sort it myself, I have an OBD code checker, will the code show on that ?

Have tried my OBDII checker and no codes showing, the cars abs is active so I get a cadence braking effect until the lights come on, but nothing afterwards

Ok sounds like a shorting out wheel sensor losing its signal. Unfortunately you are going to need to chech each sensor to determine which is at fault.
