Hi, I have recently purchased a santa fe Petrol (2.4) Im having issues where the idle speed is too high when changing gear or pulling up at stops, traffic lights etc. It does settle down - but takes approx 6-10 seconds to do so. Obviously, this isnt an issue when driving (although the revs spike) - but revs at traffic lights etc this is causing an issue as the eccelerator has been released but the car still revs like the the pedal is depressed. Basically - every time i touch the accelerator pedal the car revs way beyond where it should and keeps reving for a short time after the pedal has been released. Do you have any idea what may cause this or a good place to start an investigation. Thanks.

Hi .

Is there any malfunction warning lights ON like the check engine light when the engine is running .

When you switch the ignition switch to ON and engine OFF, the check engine light should come ON and when you start the engine the check engine light should go out .

no lights come on, and all lights goes out when you start it up

Check for vacuum leaks on the intake manifold ,use a can of carb cleaner and spray around the intake manifold gaskets and vacuum hose , if the rpm drops or goes up then there is the vacuum leak .

Repair and retest ...

Remove the connection on the MAF then start the engine will it run better and idle .

Did what you said, tick over goes back to normal now quite quick when hot, but still when cold still ticking over at 20 rpm when cold.could that be the choke causing it to run to high can you adjust them thank you

Okay this could be a problem with the throttle body , look down the throttle body is it full od black carbon. if yes remove and clean with carb cleaner .

Below the throttle body is the ISA idle speed actuator check the connections on this
the hose connections for leaks

Remember your car engine system is completely computer controls there is no idle adjustment possible.
