Hi Mike .

You have a typical issue here with the throttle body .

In most cases all you have to do is remove and clean the throttle body with throttle body cleaning spray .

What happens a lot of carbon build up causes the throttle plata to bind and no close correctly .this issue is also causing the P0170 code .

So after a good clean out clear codes do a good test t\drive and then let me know hoe it goes .

For further assistance with this issue please get back to me with the reply box below .

Hi Greg, I have cleaned the throttle body. codes still come up, maybe after thirty minutes driving. Also the revs sometimes increase to around 2500 then drop to 1000. i have recently replaced the maf sensor as well

Okay good thanks for coming back Mike .

Looks like a vacuum leak probably due to the manifold gasket or the IAC is acting up.

Mike which engine do you have in your car and model and year .
