i have had my car hooked up and the fault is the mass air sensor what does this do

Hello there,

Put the MAF back on until you get a new one.

Without a MAF, the fueling will be a default low power amount.

A MAF code is not always a faulty MAF, could be wiring, cam timing sloppy chain etc.

the car is putting out black smoke when i accurate could this be caused by the MAF
Expert:  Gary replied 1 month ago.

Have you scanned the vehicle for codes set?

Does the engine light come on?

Gary

Customer: replied 1 month ago.
No engine lights at all I have checked all the fuses all ok wiring looks fine
Expert:  Gary replied 1 month ago.

If you are chasing black smoke, then you should be looking for boost pressure leaks,

poor injector spray patterns etc. I doubt changing the MAF will have any effect.

How much black smoke are talkng about?

Can you see it in the mirrors?

Gary

There is black smoke when I initially accurate hard the engine is ticking over smoothly but is lacking when you accelerate but over 2000 revs runs perfectly
Expert:  Gary replied 1 month ago.

Without any codes set, you would be guessing to put a MAF on it.

Don't waste your money on a MAF.

You need to get a Jaguar technician to verify your concern.

It needs physical diagnosis, which I can't do for you.

There is mainly white smoke sorry I though I mentioned the car has been on a diagnostic machine at Jaguar and the only fault was MAF faulty I have ordered a new one and will try that if not at least I have the peace of mind that it will be working and must be something else
Expert:  Gary replied 1 month ago.

White smoke, definitely white, not steam, there is a difference.

If you have cold weather now, are you sure it is not steam?

Happens in cold weather after cold start.

No it’s grey I suppose when you start the engine it fires up ok but when you press the accellerator pedal it is hesitant and it smokes once it reaches 1500 rpm it runs ok
Expert:  Gary replied 1 month ago.

Sounds like it is a little fuel rich at low rpm.

Might have one injector a bit off.

Needs workshop analysis.
