Hello Derick! Thank you for your question. I am a licensed computer professional with over ten years of experience, and I will be assisting you today.

I'm sorry about the issue. So you've run the windows 8 upgrade assistant on your Lenovo windows xp laptop, but it's not compatible:
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-8/upgrade-from-windows-vista-xp-tutorial

There is the windows 7 upgrade advisor you can check:
http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=20
; and although microsoft does not sell windows 7 any more, you can still buy it from ebay website:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/Operating-Systems-/11226/i.html?_from=R40&_nkw=windows+7+full+version

However, even if your old windows xp computer is compatible with windows 7/8, it can be a hassle upgrading. Your old hardware devices, such as printer/scanner, or your old software programs might not be compatible with windows 7/8, so you might have to buy new devices and/or programs.

I don't recommend upgrading from windows xp computer to windows 7 / 8 as usually, windows xp hardware components are old, so there can be some compatibility issues, and the speed can be slower also as windows 7 / 8 requires more processor / graphics power.

As of now, Microsoft has already stopped support windows xp. However, as long as you have your antivirus program installed, then you will still be able use windows xp computer fine.
