thanks well it's a hp pavilion dv5, everytime I start it nothing happens, just a black screen
OK it can be a hardware issue but the simple step you can do is as follows
Make sure the HP laptop is completely turned off then disconnect the AC adapter. Remove the battery and press and hold the power button for about 60 seconds. Releases the button do not insert the battery back now plug the adapter back and turn on the computer. See if the problem persists.

Does it make any beep sounds when you turn on ?Can you hear the Fan spinning sound from the laptop?
i have 2 white lights flashing one above the num lock button and the other one next to caps lock, any idea?

ok now clean the memory slot and memory module contact area.Do not use wet cloth or anything.you only need to blow away the dust from it. you can use air can
once you have done that just insert the 1GB module in the slot carefully.make sure the module is seated correctly in the notch and the locks are in place.

so after changing the slots and trying one module at a time.its giving the same result am i correct
it seems like a hardware issue looks like the display chip or the power section in the motherboard.have you tried connecting the laptop to a external display.if its a display chip issue that wont either work but if its laptop screen issue the external monitor will work
the external does not work I tried VGA and HDMI
So its the motherboard issue which needs detailed checking by a technician.Does that laptop have ATI graphics?
Most of the ATI display shows these kinds of issues so it most likely a display chip issue but cannot grantee until a technician checks it in detail

Solutions you can try 1.You can update the BIOS from asus site 2.Restore the Bios settings to default 3.Re-install windows and check itIf none of the above works then sorry to the usb ports are not functioning
