It is not asking for my user and or using my e-mail address - just a block with 'enter password' only.
Are the NUM lock and/or CAPS lock keys off on your keyboard? Yes.
Is it okay to reset the laptop fresh? Yes
Battery cover I can remove but not the memory cover - not sure where the memory cover is? The laptop is about 18 months old.
Please see the two videos below:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qy3PQ65Uflohttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9VqqGSiEbSoThen jumper you want to short is JRST2501 or B500.
Please see the image below:
Please let me know. Thank you,
Knowing my expertise with a screwdriver I would probably short the enire system. Many thanks for your help judging by the expert showing how to short the system the area was not that clear & and I don't want to ruin the laptop. John
You're welcome. I'm sorry. Here is an image of the jumper you need to short:
After opening the cover, you will see these two labels JRST2101 and JRST2001 just to the bottom right of the CMOS battery (the small round battery as show on the above image). Just to the left of those two labels are the solder points. It looks like two single solder points but there is actually a small gap in between each. Take a flat head screwdriver & fit a piece of folded tin foil to the end (or use a paperclip). You need to short out the pair that are closest to the CMOS battery housing; it's marked with a red circle in the above image. It's easy to make steady contact as you can support the screwdriver against the battery housing. Turn on the power and if you've shorted correctly it will go to the BIOS, password, and user show up as Not Registered. Then Save & Exit. That should work.
Also, here is the laptop's full disassembly instruction if you need:
You just need to remove the back cover in order to see the CMOS battery / jumpers location as show in the above image.
