I have a surface pro 3 and have problems with my gmail account.

I have a surface pro 3 and have problems with my gmail account. I can't send from it on my surface. I also can't open an excel document that has been sent to me via gmail - it comes from a reputable source - so can't imagine what's up with it. please help!

I don't get an error message when I try and open the excel document - nothing happens. With the gmail account - I get a message saying something like gmail is unable to send messages from this account and then I get an option to either go to message or cancel
