I need a new laptop and would like advise on what exactly I

Resolved Question:

Hi
I need a new laptop and would like advise on what exactly I need.I currently have a Sony Viao which I love but fear it's coming to the end of it's life cycle. I would replace it with another Sony but they've stopped making laptops now.At any given time I'd have MS Outlook, Edge and Firebox open - maybe 10 - 12 tabs between Firefox and Edge as well as speciality software from http://www.nortechsoftware.co.ukLess often I'd be using Excel, movies from Youtube or nextflix etc.I'd also use Itunes to back up my iphone and Ipad etc.I want to have excellent speed on the new laptop, can you advise what processor, memory and graphics card I would need to keep everything running fast. Like minimums that will keep the machine running fast without lag times that I expereinced before this laptop. Also any advise on reliable models would be appreciated.ThanksMark.

Hello! My name is*****
I am a certified computer professional who will assist you with the problem you described.

The requirements you mentioned here are not drastic, so any mid-range laptop will do just fine. You need a decent processor since that is the core of the computer. The faster the better. As far as the memory goes, 4 GB is enough, which is standard for most laptops nowadays. Graphics card is usually integrated into the motherboard or the processor which brings solid performance for everyday tasks; however, if you plan to play high-demanding video games or edit videos, you will need a dedicated graphics card.

I can suggest you some good laptop models. Let me know if you have a specific brand in mind. Also, what about the screen size? The usual size for laptops is 15.6'', but there are bigger and larger screen sizes.

Thanks,
IT Miro

Thank you IT Miro.I'd like a 15.6 screen size and the keyboard in very important to me, I'd like a raised keyboard, where the keys are raised from the chasis and spaced. Also something relatively lightweight. I'd also prefer SSD, it seems much more reliable.I'd also consider a 2 in 1, do you know does these function primarily as laptops? Is there anything I can do on a laptop that can't be done on a 2 in 1?Thanks for your help.Mark.

Thanks for the additional information, Mark!

A 2 in 1 computer is a standard laptop, but with ability to disconnect the display from the rest of the computer (keyboard part) and continue to use it as a tablet computer. Because of that, all 2 in 1 come with a touch-screen display. The touch-screen display works in the "laptop" mode as well. While in "tablet" mode, you can continue to run the same programs, only without the physical keyboard, so you need to use the touch-screen. You get a lighter, slimmer and more mobile computer compared to a standard laptop computer.

A "tablet" mode is usually used for presentation purposes or for similar scenarios where you don't need to rely on the keyboard input that much. Another example is doing simple tasks such as listening to music and watching the videos. It becomes very easy since you only need to tap on the screen, similar to when using a phone or tablet. When you need to work in Excel with the physical keyboard, you can reconnect the display in order to switch to the "laptop" mode.

Apart from disconnecting the display, you can also rotate it. 2 in 1 computers usually come with SSD instead of HDD; however, you can also get a HDD-SSD hybrid which is also good. Screen size ranges from 10.1'' to 15.6''.

Since you would like a 15.6'' screen size for 2 in 1 computer, here are the best ones:

1. Dell Inspiron 15 7000 (7568)

These models all have a powerful processor so you don't need to worry about the computer running slow. As far as the raised keyboard goes, unfortunately, you won't find it with 2 in 1 computers since they need to be as slimmer as possible. I suggest checking the YouTube videos for all of them to see more information on them.

I hope this helps!

Let me know if there is anything else I can help you with.
