I Estimated to refurbish a house for my customer a price of £26,660.00 was agreed. We had £9,000.00 of extras that were priced and agreed as the job progressed. Stage payments were maid. The customer is now asking to see receipts for ALL the materials I purchased and how much I paid in wages to others working for me. Electrician Plumber Plasterer etc etc. All snags are now complete and they are holding £2,200.00 until I show them the receipts.

I need to know what your question is exactly. Why dont you want to show receipts?
I still need that further info before I can asnwer you

Customer: replied 4 years ago.

I have worked in the building trade for a number of years and have a lot of collegues in the same line of buisness. I have never Estimated for a job and had the customer agree to my price and then half way trough the work ask to see the receipts for the materials I have bought. If they supply the materials and I collect and pay for them yes they are given the receipts. They want to see receipts for the materials I have supplied and what money I have paid to trades that work for me. This is private information as far as I am conserned. My collegues agree.

I have all receipts and will show them if necessary but feel it is my personal accounts that are being look into, which is between me my accountant and the tax man.

Your View would be much appreciated.

My question`, Have they the right to see the Invoices and payments maid to other trades? Is this a resonable request? If I have to take then to court to get what they owe me will a Judge agree with them?

Expert:  Stuart J replied 4 years ago.

They have no
absolute right to see all your paperwork.

They have no right
to know what you pay your staff or what you pay for the goods that you sell to
them, provided, of course, you are not misleading them by telling them that you
are only passing the actual costs on.

I cannot think why
they would want to take you to court to get the sight of these papers. Even assuming
that they did, for some strange reason, decide they want to make a court
application, I cannot see why you would want to defend it merely on a point of
principle.

Can I help
further?
