Ref Your answer I haven't sold a automatic knife and I now understand that its importation is prohibited the fine and corosponding prison sentance would not be applicable what is the possible consequences for attemping to import an prohibited item also as the knife was impounded by Customs in its bonded warehouse it technically wasn't imported

The legislation does allow for up to six months custody and a fine of £1000 but you would not get that.

If this was just an ornament then there might even be a police caution available.

Importation sounds horrendous but, in fact, all you did was order it online.

Its to be hoped they just seize and destroy.
