Can I copyright the rules of a fantasy sport contest?

Customer Question

Can I copyright and protect the rules / format to a different type of 'fantasy sport' league or contest that I intend to offer on a web site?

Thank you for your question.

Your source code and design would be protected by copyright as would the text of the rules as these would be deemed literary works. However the general idea is not protected. You can't copyright an idea.

Happy to discuss further.
